What is Truancy, and why does it matter so much if my child misses a few days at school?

In the state of Minnesota, children under the age of 16 are legally required to go to school. If there are a number of unexcused absences from school, it is both the school and state’s duty to step in and see why your child is not attending school. In some cases, the police and courts may become involved.

This is a sensitive topic and I don’t want my neighbors or friends to know about it. Does HAP respect my family’s privacy?

Absolutely! HAP understands that these situations are very sensitive, and we place a high value on confidentiality. Our staff are specially trained to help navigate families through these situations within a culturally sensitive approach.

What if I’m already involved in the courts? What are my options?

Due to the unique nature of each case, your options can be varied. However, HAP is committed to helping you and your family resolve your case in a way that best benefits you and your child.
