Message from the Interim Executive Director on Atlanta Tragedies

In the past few months, our community has seen an uptick of anti-Asian American rhetoric due to racist ideas about the Coronavirus and the pandemic. These harmful narratives have led to an increase of hate crimes and violence against our most vulnerable, including our elders, immigrants and refugees. This all has life-threatening consequences, as seen with the tragic shootings on Tuesday and the numerous anti-Asian hate crimes we’ve witnessed in our own local community. Our heart goes out to the lives lost, to the families of those affected by Tuesday’s shooting, and to our fellow community members who have been victims of hate crimes. We demand justice for victims of hate crimes in our community locally and nationally and that these attacks are addressed with urgency. HAP does not tolerate racism, xenophobia, or misogyny. We condemn any and all hate crimes. We are dedicated to supporting those in our community who have been victims, and are working towards dismantling anti-Asian narratives.
